'Roasting of Chestnuts' on Saints Day

- Description: On the 1st of November, all saints’ festivity, a traditional celebration takes place known as the Tostoná where all the residents of Istán move out to the countryside to spend a day together, specifically in the “La Ermita recreational area” with benches and snack bars. This area is reached from El Calvario (The Calvary) in the direction of the sports centre. Once there, family and friends join together in the warmth of the sunlight where the flowing of alcohol and roasted chestnuts take on a special role of their own. The youngest ones spend the day in the countryside and, before returning, they paint each other’s faces with the soot from the pots and pans used to roast the chestnuts.
