San Miguel Hermitage
Located some 2km from the town, the Ermita accommodates within its structure a natural cave excavated in the rock which hosts the Patron Saint of Istán, San Miguel.
From here you can see the Sierra Blanca, the Río Verde Valley with the Reservoir and, in the background, the Mediterranean Sea.
The Sunday prior to the Istán Fair, last week in September, the Tomillería is celebrated in the recreation area which is next to the Ermita and which has snack bars and barbeques. It is a pilgrimage in honour of San Miguel which a huge number of people attend.
How to get to the Ermita?
To reach it we must take the local A-7176 road from the Costa del Sol (Marbella) to Istán, or the rambler route P.R.-A 138, Istán-La Ermita.
- Visiting hours: Closed to the public, its restricted dimensions enable observation only through its grilles.
