DEPARTURE:

VegetaciónFrom the Casa de la Juventud Viewpoint, north of the town, we can see by looking to the north practically the whole of the area where this route takes place.  We take the track that goes down to the right (30S-0325670 / UTM-4050706)on a very pronounced slope, and we continue along the second track on the left (30S-0325804 / UTM-4050672).  We continue along this track which passes between well cared for crops leaving to one side the crossroads until the one we reach after two sharp downhill bends, here we continue straight on and leave the one on the left behind, in a hundred or so metres we cross a bridge, above the Río Molinos (30S-0325810 / UTM-4051041); and to mention that this river is an affluent of the Río Verde into which it flows some 100 metres further down.

Molino restauradoOnce we have crossed the bridge we take a left and continue until the end of the track where we will find a railing around a private country estate, just to the right of this railing a path begins (30S-0325740 / UTM-4051084) which goes up and we will continue along it, as a reference point we will pass some “corrals” with animals in which we will leave to our right and a little further up we will arrive at the remains of an old Arabic “era”.  During this tranche of the path we will pass along the valley which the Luis stream forms before also flowing into the Río Verde.

Fuente junto al río MolinosWe leave the “era” behind and within 20 metres we will be on the Istán-La Gallega track (30S-0326019 / UTM-4051185), we take it to the left and continue along it, in 200 metres we will cross the “Luis stream” and a little further on we will arrive at the “Puerto de la Gallega” (30S-0326191 / UTM-4051338), where we can see a very pretty view of the area known as “La Gallega”.  If we want to improve this view, at the same pass we go in a bit further to the left by the rocky hill there, known as the “Errizas de la Gallega”, and the views improve significantly.

After enjoying these views, we will continue along our path, we cross the Luis stream in an opposite direction to previously, and we leave behind the Arabic era we visited to continue along the track.

Sendero Istán - La GallegaWe cross another stream  and on our right we can see a small irrigation bridge and after going up the track a few metres, a path descends to the right (30S-0326068 / UTM-4050819) which we will take.  This path (camino de los molinos – path of the mills) in a few metres cross an irrigation channel, we continue descending and we will once again see the Río Molinos and various buildings on the other side of the river, they are the old mills that used to be in the area, some of which have been restored.

We reach another irrigation ditch along which we will walk for a few metres and then we continue along the path which we can now see descends in order to cross the Río Molinos, once the river is crossed (30S-0325923 / UTM-4050645) to the right the path will take us to an esplanade from where part of the track forms a steep ascent, this is the same track we took at the beginning of the route.
