We leave from the Plaza de Istán and go up the “CALVARIO” hill, heading towards the sports centre, which we will leave to our right.  We carry on and, shortly before the Hotel Altos de Istán, we take a left and approximately one kilometre from our departure we will arrive at the “NACIMIENTO” (source) of the Río MOLINOS (30S-0326457 / UTM-4050017), where we will replenish our water if we didn’t do so in the town.  From here we will always continue along the main lane, without paying any attention to the multitude of secondary lanes we will pass.  At 4.400 metres from the point of departure we will find the first crossroads (30S-0326647 / UTM-4051486) to bear in mind, ours is the right-hand turning which heads upwards a little.  Some 8 kilometres from departure we will see a stony outcrop to our right: the “CAÑADA DEL INFIERNO” (Hell’s Gorge) (30S-0328572 / UTM-4052254).

From here the path starts its ascent until reaching the “PUERTO MORATÁN” (Moratán mountain pass) (30S-0330111 / UTM 4053198), we will be some 10.600 metres from the beginning of the route; we will see a crossroads with a path to the left which takes us to the GOLONDRINAS mountain pass and from there to Tolox.  We carry straight on towards Monda.  As a reference point, little more than 13.400 metres from the start of the route, we will find the ruins of what used to be the house of the “MORALILLOS”.  We continue on and at 16.200 metres from the starting point we find a large country house and the ruins of what was an old factory with a huge chimney (30S-0333586 / UTM-4054667).

After 18.000 metres we reach an asphalted track which to the left takes us to the Monda-Marbella road (30S-0334693 / UTM-4054564).  If we take a left little more than a kilometre further on, we will arrive at the village of Monda.  The return will be along the same path.
